Day de Dada Mandala Mail Art Table

The word Mandala means “circle”. A Mandala represents wholeness, a cosmic diagram reminding us of our relation to infinity, extending beyond and within our bodies and minds.

The mandala appears to us in all aspects of life, the Earth, the Sun, the Moon and more obviously the circles of life encompassing friends, family and communities.

Day de Dada Ground Mandala (by Margaret Chase)

People decorate the Mandala with found objects – keeping the pattern balanced.

Day de Dada at the St George Festival

March 18, 2015

st george day

Day de Dada at St George Day, Saturday, April 25, 2015.  Join Day de Dada for a mail art workshop.  The theme is ‘wishes’ and we will have all the materials ready for you to create mail art to send out or to be displayed at “What Do You Wish?” at the Staten Island Ferry Culture Lounge this summer July through September.

Mail art (also known as Postal art and Correspondence art) is a populist artistic movement centered on sending small scale works through the postal service. It initially developed out of the Fluxus movement in the 1950s and 60s, though it has since developed into a global movement that continues to the present.” from Wikipedia

What Do You Wish ?

March 18, 2015

Day de Dada has been collecting wishes for the last year and drawing them on maps, collecting them in the air, whispering them, fanning them, and planting them so they can grow.  Some wishes have been rolled into beads, some have been tossed like a coin in a fountain, and some have been released by fire.  There is great power in a disclosed wish, it begins an energy movement.

Have you thought about your wishes? Are you willing to share them? You can express your wishes by mail or in person  July 16 – Sept. 20, 2015 at SI Arts Culture Lounge in the Staten Island Ferry Terminal.

On view will be a wish filled collection of international mail art and video, and a sound installation. Culture Lounge visitors have the opportunity to make their own wishes, write a wish on a cloth strip and tie it on the fence installation, create mail art wishes to send off to someone or make a wish on the spot by selecting a traditional or non-traditional wishing action. The Wish Sisters will be in person collecting wishes at various times throughout the exhibit.

No Geographical Boundaries – Dada Transformation

September 22, 2012

We can change and transform small things.  We can change, transform and mail pieces of art. We can change, transform, mail and skype live art. We can gather at Deep Tanks and Fluxfest NYC in person, through art books, rubber stamps, live art performances, gatherings,  postings online and with skype.  There are no geographical barriers with Fluxus.  Our goal is to erase the boundaries between art and life.
